Abstract
Cytomegalovirus is distributed worldwidely, and it is reported that 40¡100% of the general population have antibodies aganist it. As well known, cytomegalovirus is one the most common infectious agent aamong the prenatal period. Since the congential infection can lead to severe sequelas, a status survey of the prevalence of infection, as detected by antibodies against cytomegalovirus, should be contributory in deeper ub\nderstanding of the disease as well as the prevention of birth of deformed infants. With this purpose in mind, the antibody titers of cytomegalovirus were surveyed, using ELISA method. The samples were taken from 190 normal primary schoolchildren( the seventh to twelfth) of two schoola located in Dae Rim and Young Deung Po Dongs in Seoul, Korea, in July, 1982. The results of the survey asr summarized as follows: 1. With the antibody titer of higher than 1:40 bging considered positive, the antibody level in 117 cases(61.6%) were positive. 2. The antibody positive tates were 58.8%(70 out of 119) in males and 66.2%(47 out of 71) in females. The results were not significant difference. 3. The antibody positive rates did not show any statistical difference according to age groups. 4. By examined school, the positive rates were 64.9% in 94 samples at Young Nam Elimentary school and 58.3% in 96 samples at Dae Dong ELimentary school. These were not statistically significant difference either.
